Cushings Disease In Dogs

...is a pretty serious thing.  It is not a disease that only impacts Yorkie Dogs, but they are on the "high risk" list of dogs affected by this disease, along with Silky Terriers, Bull Terriers, Boston Terriers, Poodles and Dachshunds.

Essentially Cushings Disease, also known as hyperadrenocorticism, is a problem where the adrenal glands on the dog produce too much of the cortisone hormone. 

When too much cortisone is produced the dog experiences the symptoms of Cushings Disease.

Common symptoms of Cushings Disease In Dogs include:

  • Pot Belly on the dog
  • Hair Loss on the dog
  • Thinning of the Skin on the dog
  • Increased appetite and thirst 
  • Weight gain and even obesity with the dog
  • Urinary "Accidents" with the dog
  • Limb Weakness on the dog (potentially resulting in debility)
  • Possilbe Urinary Tract Infections

Cushings Disease In Dogs is diagnosed by running various blood tests.  These tests will determine whether the problem lies in the dogs petuitary glands or the adrenal glands. 

If your dog is diagnosed with Cushings Disease the vet my prescribe some (costly) medication.  Many people opt of natural remedies.
